Cosmetic Acupuncture

Mei Zen Cosmetic Acupuncture System protocols were created by Martha Lucas, Ph.D., L.Ac.  Her system was developed after years of study, observation and clinical experience.  One of the many benefits of choosing Cosmetic Acupuncture is that it is a whole body experience.

“From a TCM standpoint, the treatment is balancing your overall Qi, thereby improving your general health. What you see in your face is indeed, at least in part, due to the state of your overall health. From a more modern medicine point of view, what is happening is that the needles cause micro-trauma in the skin. Since the body perceives that as injury, it likely sends fibroblasts—cells that can form collagen and elastin—to those sites to heal them. It is therefore possible that your collagen and elastin stores get more abundant from the needling. The wound healing process may have the effect of balancing the dispersal of collagen as well so that the results are widespread, not just in certain areas.” –Dr. Lucas

With each of the protocols, you can expect to see:
- Improved complexion and elasticity
- A reduction in wrinkles and finer lines
- Leveling of deeper winkles
- Improvement on the beginnings of jowls
- Improvement with acne, rosacea and puffiness.

Patients have also reported:
- Feeling more energetic
- Reduction in mild anxiety and depression
- Reduction of hot flashes and night sweats
- Overall feeling of improved health

(It is important to stress that every body is different and so we cannot guarantee results.)

What does treatment look like?
Both the Face and the Neck protocols require 2 treatments a week, for 5 weeks in a row. With a total of 10 treatments. With 2-3 days between treatments.

  • Each treatment is 1 hour long.

  • Before (treatment 1) and After (treatment 10) photos taken.

  • With each treatment dietary advice will be given for best overall results.

  • It is important that you use your choice of moisturizer during the 5 weeks, preferably one with sunscreen.

Results may last 2-2.5 years with regular maintenance with a minimum of 2 treatments every 6 months.
